Bed bugs are small, oval, reddish-brown insects that live on the blood of animals or humans. Since bed bugs live solely on blood, having them in your home is not a sign of dirtiness. You are as likely to find these pests in immaculate homes as much as in filthy ones. Bed bugs are highly mobile insects and their sticky coatings allow them to be transported to new locations by attaching themselves to clothing or luggage. They also travel on their own moving through wall voids, ducts, and false ceilings. Their small, flat shape allows them to hide and remain undetected in very small spaces.

How do I know if I have bed bugs?

Typically the first sign of a bed bug infestation starts with small, painless bites on your body that usual appear in a trail pattern. Small, hard, swollen, white welt may develop at the site of each bite. This is accompanied by severe itching that lasts for several hours to days. Bed bugs are active mainly at night and usually bite people while they are sleeping. If you wake up with itchy areas you didn’t have when you went to sleep, you may have bedbugs. You may also identify a problem by seeing the actual bug itself, although they are excellent at hiding.

What can be infested with bed bugs?

Bed Bugs can be found anywhere humans are and have adapted well to our environments. Their small, flat shape allows them to hide and remain undetected in very small spaces such as crevices and cracks in walls, behind baseboards, inside electrical outlets, in folds of mattresses and furniture cushions as well as box springs and under carpets.
